Prostate Cancer

What is Cancer?

Cancers are malignant growth of cells. Initially, they remain localised to the site of the origin - for example, prostate cancer originates in the prostate. Later, as the cancer develops, some cells may grow into the surrounding tissues or organs (e.g. bowel or bladder), others may break off and spread around the body via lymph glands and/or the bloodstream to develop elsewhere (e.g. bone or liver). These are called metastases or secondaries. They are treatable but are not usually curable.
