Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH)
Symptoms
There are two broad categories of LUTS (lower urinary track symptoms), voiding (when urine is passed) and storage (or filling) symptoms (which occur as the bladder fills).
Voiding symptoms include hesitancy (a delay in starting the urinary stream), poor stream and dribbling right at the end of passing urine.
Storage symptoms include urgency (an urgent desire to rush to the toilet), frequency (urinating more often than usual), nocturia (waking up at night specifically with a desire to urinate) and incontinence. Each person’s symptoms needs to be assessed individually as there are many potential diagnoses - prostate obstruction is only one.
