Faiz Mumtaz is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University College London Medical School. He undertook higher Urological Training in London based at the Royal Free Hospital, University College Hospital and at various general district hospitals within the North Thames region. In addition to the general urological training, he has established over the last 8 years a specialist interest in minimally invasive urological cancer surgery. He is an experienced laparoscopic urological surgeon and has a fellowship in laparoscopic urological surgery awarded by the European Institute of Telesurgery (Strasbourg). He has mentored several consultant colleagues in the techniques relating to extraperitoneal approach in urological laparoscopy.

 

Mr Mumtaz is also an academic urologist with a team of three research fellows and a senior research scientist based at the Royal Free Hospital. His team is actively involved in laboratory based research on prostate, bladder and kidney cancer and has been actively involved in various clinical trials. He has well over 200 publications and has presented at various national and international meetings. He reviews both national and international articles for various peer-reviewed journals. He is the chief editor of a first book published on the management of urological emergencies. He is also the external examiner for higher urological postgraduate degrees for various institutions on topics relating to prostate cancer. He is currently the deputy programme director for North Thames London Surgical Training Committee.
